TPT Exclusive vs Basic: what changes on January 1, 2027
On October 1, 2026, TPT announced that its Premium seller membership will be replaced by a new Exclusive Seller membership. Here's what TPT has said so far, in one place.
The key dates
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| October 1, 2026 | Exclusive Seller announced. Premium closed to new sign-ups. |
| Through December 31, 2026 | Current Premium sellers keep their 80% payout. |
| December 31, 2026, 11:59pm ET | Last moment for current Premium sellers to opt in to Exclusive before the switch. |
| January 1, 2027 | Premium ends. Sellers who didn't opt in become Basic sellers. |
Exclusive vs Basic at a glance
| Exclusive Seller | Basic Seller | |
|---|---|---|
| Payout rate | 77.5% | 55% |
| Membership fee | $59.95 per year | $29 one-time (waived for Premium sellers who are converted, per the town-hall recap) |
| Transaction fee | None on orders over $3; $0.15 per resource under $3 | $0.30 per resource |
| Selling elsewhere | TPT-eligible digital teaching resources only on TPT | Allowed |
Example from one seller blog: on a $10 sale, an Exclusive seller keeps $7.75; a Basic seller keeps $5.20 after the $0.30 fee.
What "exclusive" covers
- Can't be sold off TPT: digital teaching resources you sell on TPT, memberships that include them, and licenses for them.
- Still fine elsewhere: clip art and fonts, physical products, courses and professional development, Boom Cards, and Kindle books.
- Your own website: may stay up. Its "Buy" buttons can send people to the matching product on TPT.
- Free resources: allowed on and off TPT, but you can't charge on TPT for something you give away free elsewhere.
- Leaving Exclusive after January 1: allowed any time, but then there's a one-year wait before you can rejoin.
The AI announcement
At an October 8 town hall, TPT asked sellers not to use generative AI for images or text in resource files, covers, thumbnails, previews or product descriptions, and to replace AI content already published. A written policy was still to come at the time of writing.
What to do before December 31
- Back up your store, whatever you decide: listings, images, previews and your product files. How.
- Run your numbers: what share of your income comes from outside TPT? Exclusive needs that to stop (except the exempt categories).
- If you go Exclusive: point your website's buttons to TPT. Storeroom's WooCommerce "Buy on TPT" catalog builds that for you.
- If you go Basic or leave: set up your second channel early: Shopify, WooCommerce, Etsy, Payhip and others, and Pinterest for traffic.
